Ant Control
Most do-it-yourself approaches only kill the ants you see. To be truly effective, a treatment must penetrate and destroy the unseen nest, which could be in your walls or foundation or outside the home. Most ant infestations start from the exterior – ants can travel up to 300 feet from their nest. Slug-A-Bug has an effective program to take care of your ant problem.
There are more than 12,000 species of ants all over the world. An ant can lift 20 times its own body weight. If a second grader was as strong as an ant, she would be able to pick up a car! Some queen ants can live for many years and have millions of babies! Ants do not have ears. Ants “hear” by feeling vibrations in the ground through their feet. When ants fight, it is usually to the death!
When foraging, ants leave a pheromone trail so that they know where they have been. Queen ants have wings, which they shed when they start a new nest. Ants do not have lungs. Oxygen enters through tiny holes all over the body and carbon dioxide leaves through the same holes.
When the queen of the colony dies, the colony can only survive a few months. Queens are rarely replaced and the workers are not able to reproduce. There are three kinds of ants in a colony: The Queen, the female workers, and males. The queen and the males have wings, while the workers do not have wings. The queen is the only ant that can lay eggs. The male ants job is to mate with future queen ants and they do not live very long afterwards. Once the queen grows to adulthood, she spends the rest of her life laying eggs! Depending on the species, a colony may have one queen or many queens.
Ant colonies also have soldier ants that protect the queen, defend the colony, gather or kill food, and attack enemy colonies in search for food and nesting space. If they defeat another ant colony, they take away the eggs of the defeated ant colony. When the eggs hatch, the new ants become the “slave” ants for the colony. Some of the jobs of the colony include taking care of the eggs and babies, gathering food for the colony and building the anthills or mounds. Ant infestations can be difficult to handle because the majority of the time, you are dealing with a large colony. We find the location of the colony and use commercial strength materials of non-repellent products to eliminate the entire nest instead of just individual members. The ants continue to forage and do not realize they have been in contact with the product and take it back to the colony with them. This is the best way to get rid of ants because it ensures that the colony will not return. Call Slug-A-Bug now for your free estimate.
Termite Control
Termites are a group of eusocial insects that divide labor among castes, produce overlapping generations and take care of young collectively. Termites mostly feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of wood, leaf litter or soil. About 10% of the estimated 4,000 species (about 2,600 taxonomically known) are economically significant as pests that can cause serious damage to buildings, crops, and forests. Termites are major detritivores, particularly in the subtropical and tropical regions, and their recycling of wood and other plant matter is of considerable ecological importance.

Bedbug Control
Slug-A-Bug Inc Provides the Best Pest Control Services in Northern Virginia. Bedbugs are small, oval, wingless insects that reach about ¼ inch in length. They have flat bodies and are reddish brown in color. They do not develop wings and cannot fly. Bedbugs feed by sucking blood from humans or animals. In the act of feeding on human blood they may inject their own saliva into the bite area, leading to a localized area of itching and swelling very similar to a mosquito bite. Scratching these bites may cause severe irritation or infection. Control of these insects requires knowledge of their biology and habits because they are very secretive. Overlooking on nesting site can lead to treatment failure and continuing infestation.
There is currently a global increase in bedbug infestations, you are by no means excluded. Bedbugs are a notoriously complex problem to deal with and experience is essential to safe, efficient and rapid elimination. Bedbugs are a pest of exposure. They have little or nothing to do with living conditions in most cases. When you are exposed to them, they have no idea what is the condition of your home. If exposed anyone can bring them home and quickly have a problem as they breed at a phenomenal rate.
Flea Control
Fleas are insects, 1/16 to 1/8 inch long, agile, usually dark colored, wingless insects with tube-like mouth parts adapted to feeding on the blood of their hosts. Their legs are long, the hind pair well adapted for jumping. A flea can jump vertically up to 7 inches and horizontally up to 13 inches; this is around 200 times their own body length. This makes the flea one of the best jumpers of all known animals (relative to body size), second only to the frog. Slug-A-Bug will treat your home with the most advanced professional pest control techniques to get rid of flea infestation.
Rodent Control
Rodents in general look for two things: food and shelter. For proper rodent control, a thorough inspection of the perimeter of the house looking for openings, vegetation, and other areas of harborage is necessary. Any opening found in the foundation of your home, the overhangs, or plumbing pipes can all be professionally sealed.
Slug-A-Bug can render a pest management approach to include traps and/or baiting in conjunction with the close up work to keep the rodents from entering the home.
